The Debate Will End Soon

In software, there have always been 2 camps:

  1. The best software engineers are able to crank out the most features.
  2. The best software engineers are able to build features right.

With generative AI, 1 has never been easier.

If you believe having the most features / your product is what will set you apart from the competition, now is your time to shine.

If you believe having a smaller subset of features which have been ruthlessly refined for your specific customers and built incredibly well, now is also your time to shine.

My opinion?

You’ll see winners on both sides.

The only people who will lose are those trying to straddle somewhere in the middle. They won’t have as many features as the one side, and they won’t have the quality / lock-in advantages on the other side.

Oddly enough though, it may be easier to create more features but because it’s easier for everyone, it will be easier to get market share by focusing on quality.
